Junior volunteers

Our Junior Volunteer program is for teens 15-18. We offer volunteer opportunities throughout the year based on semester sessions; spring, summer, fall, winter. Volunteer one or more semesters and spend time helping patients, families, and friends at the hospital. You’ll learn about health care and reap the benefits of volunteering.

Weekly college program

We offer flexible scheduling to accommodate semester and class schedule changes. In addition, volunteering at United Hospital may help you in your degree program.

In addition to our weekly college program, we offer Health Care Serve & Learn Experience (SALE). Through this program, college students gain valuable experience while participating in the rewarding opportunity to meet with a health care professional.

To make the most of your volunteer experience, United Hospital requires a minimum of 60 volunteer service hours in a six month period.

Pet Partner volunteers

Pet Partners Teams (dogs only) at United Hospital provide animal-assisted activities to patients and guests. Brighten someone's day with a visit from your certified Pet Partner team!

Camp United volunteers

Camp United is United Hospital's limited placement, summer volunteer program for high school students age 15-18. Six, two-week camp sessions are offered throughout the summer. Previous and existing volunteers with 24 or more service ours during the current school year have priority placement over new volunteers. Camp United is the perfect solution for busy students who want to impact the community by volunteering.

Why Camp United?

By attending a two-week session, you will help patients, families and staff at United Hospital by performing various duties in Guest Services, Patient Discharge Service, Gift Shop and Patient Services. During these two weeks you will help people, learn about health care and reap the benefits of volunteering.

Things to know about Camp United

  • Each two-week session runs Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Applicants must commit to be in attendance for the entire day, for all 10 days of the session.
  • Camp United session dates are predetermined based on volunteer needs.
  • Sign up for session preferences will occur in March/April.
  • There is no fee for this volunteer camp.
  • Participants receive complimentary parking or one way bus pass and a meal credit each day they volunteer.

With the ongoing pandemic, Camp United is on pause for 2022.

How to become a volunteer

  • Submit an online application
  • Please check your spam/junk folders once you submit the application for the automated email with orientation instructions.
  • You will receive a link on how to complete the required steps to volunteer after you submit an online application:
    • Complete independent online orientation session within two weeks of submitting online application.
    • Complete health clearance form and screening.
    • Background study submitted by Volunteer Services on applicants 18 and older.
  • Once you completed steps 1 and 2, a staff member from the volunteer office will contact you with information on how to schedule your onsite onboarding shift.
