United Pharmacy Residency

PGY1 Program Purpose: PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

United Hospital’s overall program goals include:

  • leadership development
  • effective provisions of pharmaceutical care
  • collaboration with other health care providers to achieve positive patient outcomes
  • development of effective self-evaluation and self-learning skills
  • gaining appreciation of the inter-relationship of clinical systems, technology and distribution systems to provide an effective medication use system

Pharmacy residents develop advanced practice skills in managing drug therapy for a variety of diseases, as well as build proficiency in communicating daily with physicians, nurses and pharmacists. Resident goals and objectives are taught and evaluated using the  American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Residency Learning System (RLS). Four one-year resident positions are available beginning July 1.
