After a brief delay in spring because of the extended Minnesota winter, Steele County residents and students are taking to their gardens to plant. And some Steele County employees are joining in thanks to a grant the county received from Allina’s “ Neighborhood Health Connections ” program.

Wilson Elementary School, Owatonna, is one of 10 elementary schools in Minnesota and western Wisconsin communities chosen to participate in a novel partnership with Allina Health . Wilson Elementary School has been selected as a School Health Connection site for the 2012–13 school year, which includes a $10,000 grant to promote healthy activities.

Some Steele County employees may be spending more time in the kitchen this fall thanks to a grant the county received from the Neighborhood Health Connection program of Allina Health . The county received a $2,500 grant from Neighborhood Health Connection, which supports wellness and promotes healthy lifestyles one neighborhood at a time.

Residents of Owatonna are being encouraged to turn off their television set and go visit the city’s parks during the waning days of summer and the first days of autumn. The Owatonna Park Passport Program is a four-week long program in the month of September that is designed to get families out into the parks and hike the trails while searching for clues.

Potential stroke victims can now be seen in Owatonna, instead of having to travel to the Twin Cities. The Allina Telehealth Network will provide Owatonna Hospital with 24-hour access to metro area stroke care experts.
