Fall recipe: Apple pie bites

- Apples have a high water content along with carbohydrates and simple sugars but their glycemic index (GI) is low, which makes an apple a good snack if you have diabetes.

- One apple contains about 17% of your daily fiber needs.
This yummy dessert features one of fall’s favorite fruits - the apple. With just 130 calories, it’s the perfect-size bite of something sweet. It’s also great made with pear or peach slices. Makes 8 servings.
Ingredients
1 small baking apple, seeded and cut into 8 wedges
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 tube refrigerated crescent roll dough
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Unroll crescent roll dough, tear apart and place each triangle on the baking sheet (leaving space between each).
In a small bowl, combine sugars and cinnamon. Mix. Sprinkle evenly over crescent triangles.
Place one apple slice at the short end of each crescent triangle. Roll.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until crescent rolls are light-golden brown.
Serve warm.
