Allina Health has announced its intention to acquire ConnectCare, a non-profit company providing home health care and hospice services to the Glencoe and Hutchinson, Minnesota communities. ConnectCare is a joint venture of Hutchinson Area Health Care and Glencoe Regional Health Services.

Allina's J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice is now open in Brooklyn Park. With 12 rooms for residents, it is the largest residential hospice in the Twin Cities metro and will help alleviate a shortage of hospice beds in the region.

An effort that was pioneered in Wisconsin in the 1980s to get more people to prepare for the end of their lives has moved into the Twin Cities, serving as a model to create Minnesota's first large-scale program for end-of-life planning . The Twin Cities program, called Honoring Choices Minnesota, is three years old and includes every health provider and health system in the metro area.
