Owatonna Hospital President David Albrecht will assume the same role with District One Hospital starting in December. District One Hospital announced Albrecht as its next President Monday morning after current President Stephen Pribyl announced his retirement earlier this year.

A small group gathered in front of the Free Clinic of Steele County’s door for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and private open house Thursday afternoon to celebrate its new home in Owatonna. “This is really an important day for all of us,” said Anne Draeger, director of patient care at Owatonna Hospital, part of Allina Health , and member of the Free Clinic’s Board of Directors.

Allina Health is placing restrictions on visitors to its hospitals, after state health officials declared influenza widespread in Minnesota. Beginning Wednesday, children under age 5 and sick people will not be allowed to visit hospitalized patients.

Owatonna Hospital scored exceedingly well on The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) 2013 survey of Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC). With a score of 86, Owatonna Hospital is performing better than many facilities nationwide, in Minnesota and similar size facilities.

At 9:20 a.m. Saturday, 25 Owatonna Hospital, part of Allina Health, employees and their families packaged the last meal for the community. On Saturday, 40 Allina Health locations -- including Owatonna, Faribault and Northfield -- packaged 200,000 meals for neighbors in need in Minnesota and western Wisconsin to promote healthy eating on a budget and kick off the 2013 Neighborhood Health Connection grant application process.

Wilson Elementary School has been selected as a School Health Connection site for the 2012–13 school year, which includes a $10,000 grant to promote healthy activities.
