[Pioneer Press, November 17, 2014]   Free eye screenings for students in St. Paul Public Schools now come with an offer to pay for doctor visits, eyeglasses and even surgery thanks to the Phillips Eye Institute 's Early Youth Eyecare (EYE) Community Initiative . The Phillips Eye Institute Foundation has provided free screenings and follow-up care to Minneapolis students for seven years.

[Pioneer Press, April 03, 2014]   Exercise usually is regarded as good medicine for your heart, but maybe there's such a thing as an overdose, according to a new study that involved researchers and marathoners from Minnesota. Robert Schwartz , a Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation researcher, and his fellow researchers wrote that "an emerging body of scientific data" is starting to suggest that "chronic, high-intensity exercise" may be stressing the heart and accelerating problems like plaque build up and cardiac chamber stiffness.
