Penny Wheeler, chief clinical officer for Allina Health , said this approach to health care, forming a team around a patient and giving them someone to make sure nothing is lost in the shuffle, means a few positions are in high demand. Primary care doctors, for one.

[New York Times, August 21, 2012]   A cardiologist who studies the safety of heart devices said surgeons should stop using a component sold by St. Jude Medical until more is known about the long-term safety of the device. The cardiologist, Dr. Robert Hauser of Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, made his comments as a study he conducted was published online.

[HealthLeaders, January 01, 0001]   About three years ago two rival Minnesota health systems—HealthPartners and Allina Health—began exploring how they could combine their resources to accomplish together what they couldn't do alone. The two formed Northwest Metro Alliance to focus on achieving the triple-aim of healthcare—better care, better health, and lower cost—for 27,000 high-risk HealthPartners commercial members who live in the northwestern suburbs of Minneapolis and receive their medical care at Mercy Hospital, part of Allina Health, or at the nine local medical clinics operated by either HealthPartners or Allina.

Mayo Clinic in Rochester was the only Minnesota health provider to make it onto the 14-hospital “honor roll”; Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis ranked No. 38 in neurology and neurosurgery, No. 39 in heart and heart surgery and No. 44 in orthopedics; University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview received rankings in six areas: kidney disorder (18), pulmonology (23), gastroenterology (29), cancer (37), ear, nose and throat (44), and orthopedics (46); Hennepin County Medical Center ranked No. 34 in diabetes care and No. 47 in treatment of kidney disorders; St. Cloud Hospital was No. 49 in urology.
