MINNEAPOLIS (July 28, 2020) — Allina Health's Abbott Northwestern, Mercy and United hospitals were rated first, second (tie) and fifth (tie), respectively, in the Twin Cities in the new U.S. News & World Report 2020-21 Best Hospitals rankings released today. Abbott Northwestern was ranked first in the Twin Cities and second in all of Minnesota for the eighth year in a row.

In addition to its Twin Cities and state rankings, Abbott Northwestern Hospital received national rankings in two specialty areas: cardiology and heart surgery (#42), and diabetes and endocrinology (#38). Abbott Northwestern Hospital was also rated as high performing in gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and lung surgery, urology, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
Mercy Hospital was ranked fifth (tie) in Minnesota along with its number two (tie) ranking in the Twin Cities. It was rated high performing in pulmonology and lung surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement and knee replacement.
In addition to United Hospital's Twin Cities ranking of fifth (tie), its state ranking was eighth (tie) in the newest report. It was rated high performing in six specialties: colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery.
