Allina Health employees receive “premium holiday” for December

Minneapolis (November 27, 2020) — As we near the end of a challenging year, Allina Health employees will receive a one-time “premium holiday” for Allina Health-sponsored medical and dental plans in December 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Alina Health plan has experienced lower than usual claims expense in 2020.  We believe this is a result of covered participants either deferring or foregoing care due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Allina Health is committed to ensuring our employees, their families and all of our patients have safe access to care and encourage them to seek care when needed. We recognize, however, that many people did not seek care this year for a variety of reasons, which has contributed to the favorability in our plan expense. As a result we want to share some of that favorability with our covered employees.

Employees who participate in medical and/or dental plans, will not be charged for their portion of these premiums in December of this year. Waiving the employee portion of combined medical and dental premiums in December adds up to an average savings of $300, which will vary based upon an employee’s level of coverage.

“Allina Health employees from across our organization have sacrificed and worked hard to ensure we can continue to deliver health care in our communities throughout the pandemic,” said Christine Moore, senior vice president and chief human resources officer of Allina Health. “We are pleased share these savings by offering a ‘premium holiday’ to our employees covered by the plan.”

Creating a one-time premium holiday for the employee portion of medical and dental premiums is not something that self-funded medical and dental plans normally do, but 2020 is not a normal year.
