Allina Health announces opening of United Family Physicians Clinic

MINNEAPOLIS (December 29, 2020) — Allina Health will open a new community-based primary care clinic in St. Paul’s West Seventh neighborhood in January 2021. Allina Health’s United Family Physicians clinic will also serve as a new clinic practice and training site for the United Family Medicine Residency (UFMR) program.

The new clinic will be located at 233 Grand Avenue, near United Hospital, the residency program’s core teaching site and will support the dual mission “to serve and to teach.”  UFMR trains 21 family medicine residents a year with many graduates historically going on to serve in urban and rural settings throughout Minnesota. Family medicine physicians are increasingly in short supply.

“Allina Health has deep roots in St. Paul’s West Seventh neighborhood,” said Sara Criger, senior vice president, Allina Health Operations and president of United Hospital.  “With the opening of this new clinic we are deepening our commitment to serve the health care needs of the community, while providing a new education and training site for Allina Health’s well respected family medicine residency program that is training the next generation of committed and compassionate caregivers.”

The Allina Health United Family Physicians clinic will provide primary care for all ages, as well as mental health and addiction services and obstetrics. The physicians and residents will continue building upon the residency program’s history of creating access to comprehensive health care for low income and medically underserved residents, while welcoming all who seek care.

“Our physicians and residents are deeply connected to the West Seventh neighborhood,” said Dr. Stephanie Rosener, director of Allina Health’s United Family Medicine Residency Program. “Many of our physicians have served this community for decades and in many cases generations within the same family. We are committed to continuing to offer our resident physicians high-quality experiences, while providing respectful, personalized care for the broader community. We may have a new address, but we are the same people, with the same mission, same vision and same heart.”

Allina Health’s family medicine residency program has been operating at the United Family Medicine clinic for more than 20 years. While the opening of the new clinic marks the end of a long and meaningful partnership between United Family Medicine and the residency program, Allina Health looks forward to collectively working to serve the West Seventh community that both organizations cherish.

It is anticipated that the clinic will begin seeing patients in January 2021. To learn more about the physicians and residents who will be providing care at this clinic, please visit allinahealth.org/ufpclinic.
