ST. PAUL, Minn. (May 22, 2019) — Allina Health's United Hospital has earned accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery from the Surgical Review Corporation. A Center of Excellence accreditation distinguishes United Hospital from other hospitals by providing the highest quality of care to its patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.
"United Hospital's accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery is a testament to the hospital's dedication to using cutting edge technology to provide the best and safest care to its patients," said Peter Sershon MD, urologist and co-medical director of United Hospital's robotics program. "United Hospital performs more robotic procedures than any other hospital in the region, and has now distinguished itself as the leading hospital for robotic surgery in the Twin Cities.”
United Hospital operates five Intuitive da Vinici robotic surgical devices. In 2018, more than 1440 robotic surgical procedures were performed at United Hospital. The minimally invasive nature of robotic surgery means fewer complications, such as surgical site infection, less pain and blood loss, quicker recovery and smaller, less noticeable scars.

Status as an accredited organization means United Hospital has met nationally recognized standards. United Hospital is the first in Minnesota to have earned this accreditation.
Healthcare organizations seeking accreditation by SRC undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site inspection. This process includes physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in the accredited program. The inspection is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.
