MINNEAPOLIS (July 30, 2019) — Allina Health's Abbott Northwestern, Mercy and United hospitals were rated first, second and sixth (tied), respectively, in the Twin Cities in the new U.S. News & World Report 2019-20 Best Hospitals rankings released today. Abbott Northwestern was also ranked first in the Twin Cities and second in all of Minnesota for the 7th year in a row.

In addition to its Twin Cities and state rankings, Abbott Northwestern received national rankings in eight specialty areas: cardiology and heart surgery (#14), gastroenterology & GI surgery (#15), diabetes and endocrinology (#43), geriatrics (#33), neurology and neurosurgery (#33), orthopedics (#30 tie), pulmonology (#14 tie), and urology (#24 tie). Abbott Northwestern was also rated as high performing in abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, and lung cancer surgery.
Mercy Hospital was ranked fourth in Minnesota along with its number two ranking in the Twin Cities. It received national ranking for pulmonology and lung surgery (#21 tie) and was rated high performing in abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, nephrology, and urology.
In addition to United Hospital's Twin Cities ranking of sixth (tie), its state ranking was eighth (tie) in the newest report. It was rated high performing in nine specialties: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery.
