River Falls Area Hospital Birth Center launches pregnancy navigator program for expectant mothers

RIVER FALLS, Wis. 2/15/2018  River Falls Area Hospital Birth Center, part of Allina Health, has launched a pregnancy navigator program in an effort to continue providing excellent patient experience for residents of western Wisconsin. The program is the first of its kind in the Allina Health system.

A pregnancy navigator is an experienced, registered nurse from the River Falls Area Birth Center who meets with expectant mothers and fathers one-on-one starting early in the pregnancy until shortly after delivery. The navigator provides education tailored to the patient’s individual needs, answers questions, discusses expectations and introduces helpful resources.

“While the journey of pregnancy and delivery is joyous and exciting, it can, at times, also be a bit scary and challenging. The navigators have a dedicated phone line, personalizing care to each and every family,” said Ali Hirstein, RN, nurse navigator with the Birth Center. “The goal is really to provide continuity of care for the patient, the baby and the family. That means delivering all aspects of care in terms of mind, body, and community/social needs; especially focusing on what is most important to them.” The term for this care is referred to as “Whole Person Care” at Allina Health.
