New patient portal increases patient engagement

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. 2/14/2018 — The new Allina Health account patient portal now includes much of the information a patient needs to monitor their health care in an easy-to-read dashboard format. The new Allina Health account includes critical information about a patient’s health, including lab results, visit notes and prescription history.  

"Our goal was to create a patient focused dashboard that brings his or her most important care information front and center in an easy to read manner," said Chris DuFresne, Allina Health Director of Digital Experience. "Presenting care information in an easy to understand manner is a key component in engaging with our patients before and after their visit. The Allina Health account and associated patient dashboard are critical components of the Allina Health digital experience strategy."

The new Allina Health account synthesizes information using web-services (APIs) that pull data from the Allina Health electronic medical records system, internal wellness tools, and the billing systems in a secure manner. The design is fully responsive to give a complete experience to users who access their account from a mobile device.

“Bringing real-time patient data together to be viewed on any device is a key to delivering care as we progress into the digital age of healthcare,” said Dr. Tim Sielaff, Allina Health Chief Medical Officer. "Our new patient portal delivers on this goal."

The Allina Health account system already has more than 250,000 active patients using the Allina Health account experience, a number that grows daily. Patients use a personal username and password from a PC, tablet or mobile device to ensure their account information is completely secure.

From the Allina Health account dashboard screen a patient can access:
• Health records
• Alerts
• Messages to and from providers
• Test results
• Make and cancel appointments
• Monitor and reorder medications
• Access wellness tools
• Review billing information and make payments

"We've made common tasks easier to get to," said DuFresne. "Right when you sign in you'll see a summary of the things you want most from your health record. And you can view more of your health record online than you did in the previous portal system."
