FARIBAULT, Minn. 11/20/2018 — District One Hospital is proud to welcome Dr. David Beckmann to its staff as the hospital's first dedicated hospitalist. Hospitalists are physicians whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. Their activities include patient care, teaching, research, and leadership related to hospital medicine.
"A dedicated hospitalist physician can fully focus on needs of hospitalized patients who are most in need of medical attention. This is in contrast to a physician balancing and prioritizing needs of hospitalized patients and patients in their office practice," said David Albrecht, President, District One Hospital. "Dr. Beckmann is a highly skilled physician, well suited to address the medical needs of patients requiring hospitalization for their health and healing."
Dr. Beckmann is an experienced physician with decades of clinical practice. He did an internal medicine residency at the University of Minnesota from 1984 to 1987. He started at the Faribault Clinic in 1987 and has practiced internal medicine in Faribault in the clinic and hospital for 31 years.
"The skill set needed for hospital work requires constant practice, learning and unlearning. We care for the sickest patients and their families in the hour of crisis," said Dr. Beckmann. "Although I am employed by the hospital, I work for patients and their families that are in the hospital.
"By being the District One hospitalist, I am returning to many of the things that motivated me to be a doctor — meaningful relationships with patients and their families, being an excellent clinician, a devotion to continual learning and study, making a lasting contribution to my community through patient care, and teaching the next generation of nurses and doctors."
