Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute at District One Hospital welcomes new manager

FARIBAULT, Minn. 4/26/2018  Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute — Faribault has welcomed a new manager, Jayd Sharpe. Sharpe previously worked for Odom Health & Wellness, of Minnetonka, Minn., where she assisted in opening outpatient therapy clinics inside assisted living buildings.

Prior to Odom Health & Wellness, Sharpe worked at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute — Owatonna as an occupational therapist for more than six years. She assisted in all areas of occupational therapy, including acute care, outpatient orthopedics, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, cognitive testing and therapy and with neuro and pediatric patients.

Sharpe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from the University of Minnesota — Duluth, and a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin — LaCrosse.

“I’ve always been passionate about improving people’s lives,” says Sharpe. “As an occupational therapist, we help people live their lives to the fullest which is always rewarding.” Caring for the whole person is essential to the healing process, and Sharpe adds that she “gets to know the patient and their families…when he or she is done working with us, they see physical and psychological improvements that directly impact how they live.”

Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute — Faribault offers a continuum of outpatient rehabilitation services, including:
• physical therapy: general; orthopedic; cardiac rehabilitation; vestibular (to deal with dizziness and balance impairment); post-surgical, including back, hip and knee; and acute care
• occupational therapy: hand; general orthopedic, including fractures and post-surgical; lymphedema; and functional capacity evaluations
• speech-language pathology
• athletic training
• work conditioning
• intensive spine strengthening, using MedX equipment
• cancer rehabilitation.

Historically, District One Hospital has had a long-standing partnership with patients, community partners and businesses. The range of services Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute — Faribault offers speaks to our ability to provide comprehensive rehabilitation care to the community.

“We’re growing,” says Sharpe. “We’ve added more physical therapists and occupational therapists; we’re filling a gap that this community needs.”

New staff includes physical therapists Sarah Jentink, DPT; Kirsten Maakestad, DPT; and Courtney Tingum, DPT; and speech-language pathologist Doreen Tierney, MS, CCC-SLP.

“We’re excited to offer these innovative services, research and advocacy provided by our skilled and knowledgeable patient care staff to our local community,” says Rick Miller, director of Operations and Finance, District One Hospital “We’re continuing to grow and are committed to keeping our expert services local.”

Future growth opportunities could include stroke rehabilitation, incontinence rehabilitation for those who suffer from loss of bladder control and pediatric rehabilitation.

Adds Miller, “Being able to provide our services locally ensures our patients have ease of access to high-quality care.”

Sharpe lives in Owatonna with her husband, son and dogs. She enjoys spending time up north with family paddle boarding, swimming and fishing.
