MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. 8/14/2018 —Allina Health's Abbott Northwestern, Mercy and United hospitals were rated first, second (tied) and fourth, respectively, in the Twin Cities in the U.S. News & World Report 2018-19 Best Hospitals rankings released today. Abbott Northwestern was also ranked first in the Twin Cities and second in all of Minnesota for the 6th year in a row.

In addition to its Twin Cities and state rankings, Abbott Northwestern received national rankings in eight specialty areas: cardiology and heart surgery (#19), diabetes and endocrinology (#23), geriatrics (#38), gynecology (#27), neurology and neurosurgery (#42), orthopedics (#26), pulmonology (#47), and urology (#50). Abbott Northwestern was also rated as high performing in gastroenterology & GI surgery, and nephrology.
Mercy Hospital was ranked fourth (tie) in Minnesota along with its number two (tie) ranking in the Twin Cities. It was rated high performing in gastroenterology & GI surgery, geriatrics, nephrology, orthopedics and pulmonology.
United Hospital improved its Twin Cities ranking from fifth last year to fourth and its state ranking from eighth last year to sixth in the newest report. It was also ranked 20th nationally in gynecology.
