MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. 6/15/2018 —Courage Kenny Research Institute's (CKRI) Sports and Recreation Department is partnering with the Midwest Ski Otters Water Ski Club to host a Discover Adaptive Waterskiing Day on June 23, providing lessons for people new to the sport of adaptive waterskiing. The lessons are designed for sit down and stand up water skiers.
"We are excited to partner with the Ski Otters to provide this opportunity for folks to get out and try the exhilarating sport of waterskiing," said Kristi Youngquist, CKRI Sports and Recreation manager. "As one past adaptive waterski participant told me, 'I could move and I wasn’t stuck anymore and I was doing the same thing as able bodied people, and I was out in the air and water.'"
Participants will get one or two turns out on the water behind an official inboard water ski boat. Instructors are accomplished water skiers and trained Courage Kenny volunteers. Safety boats and personnel provide support out on the lake. All ski equipment is provided.
The lessons will be offered at the Ski Otters show site on Little Goose Lake, Hoffman Road between Co Rd F and Hwy 61 in White Bear Lake, Minn., on June 23 from 9 a.m. until noon, or 12:30 until 3:30 p.m. Registration is required and there is a $20 fee.
